ARCHIVED - Alicante incidence rate falls for first time in sixth wave: Valencia Covid update February 1
New daily cases drop across the Valencia region with 13,626 infections in the last 24 hours
The number of new reported cases of Covid have fallen once again the Valencia region, together with a drop in the Alicante province's 14-day cumulative incidence rate for the first time since the start of the third wave of the pandemic.
It's too early to say whether the days of "all-time record highs" are behind us, but the region has not reached figures typically recorded over the last month since last week.
The incidence rate in Alicante province has fallen to 3,677.54 cases per 100,000 people and in the last four days there have been 17,496 infections in Alicante which, according to the Ministry of Health, means contagion has dropped by 13.8% compared to the period between January 25 and 28.
The decrease in incidence is apparent in all of the province's health departments, but in particular in Denia and Alicante General Hospital areas, with 1,265 and 1,104 active cases less respectively than last Friday. However, the two health departments are still above the provincial average, with 3,780.25 and 3,695.77 cases per 100,000.

Looking at the Valencia Community as a whole, today's update confirms that recoveries over the last 24 hours, 24,133, far outweigh new infections, though worryingly there have been 36 Covid-related deaths.
Fatalities have been up and down over the last seven days, but it's worth noting there have been more fatalities reported in the last 24 hours than over the weekend.
On the flip side, there are currently 77 fewer seriously ill patients admitted to hospital wards across the region.
Coronavirus cases
The regional Ministry of Health has reported 13,626 new Covid cases over the weekend, down from 23,166 on Tuesday January 31. This brings the total number of positives since the beginning of the pandemic to 1,133,061.
