ARCHIVED - 75 per cent more mortgages in Valencia region this September than in 2020
More than 5,000 mortgage deals were signed across the region, including Alicante province, in September
A total of 5,004 mortgages were signed in the Valencia region in September, up 26.4% on August and 74.5% higher than the same month in 2020.
According to data published today by the National Statistics Institute (INE), Valenica is the autonomous region with the fourth highest increase in mortgage deals in Spain, behind Castilla y León, Andalucia and Catalonia.
The total capital borrowed in the region amounted to 528 million euros, 76.3% more compared to September 2020 and up 33.1% on August of this year.
Nationally, 42,547 mortgage transactions were made, 57.7% more than in the same month in 2020 and the highest figure since March 2011.
The INE data shows the average amount borrowed in Spain to buy a home stood at 143,831 euros, which is the highest figure since February 2020, while the total amount loaned rose to 6,119.5 million euros.
In terms of interest rates, two out of every three mortgages on homes (65.7%) were signed at a fixed interest rate, a percentage that has been above 60% for five consecutive months.
The average rate on loans for house purchases was 2.47%, 2.65% on fixed-rate loans and 2.19% on variable-rate loans, 2.96 points above the average Euribor (Euro Interbank Offered Rate) for the month, which was negative 0.492%.
