ARCHIVED - 60-year-old in Granada charged with shooting stray cat in the eye
The man used an air rifle to assault the cat and was later identified in La Zubia, Granada, after the police traced the gun back to him
The Guardia Civil in La Zubia, located in the province of Granada, have investigated a 60-year-old man in connection to a shocking case of animal cruelty after a stray cat was shot in the eye with an air rifle.
The incident took place on July 9 in the municipality of La Zubia, when a woman who looks after the colony of strays heard a large bang.
She didn’t realize anything was wrong until she went outside to feed the felines and saw one of them lying on the ground immobile with blood pouring out of its eye.
The woman took the cat to the vets, where the professionals found a pellet in its eye, which had to be completely removed.
Once the Guardia Civil were informed of the incident, they launched an investigation and, thanks to the pellet found in the poor animal’s eye, they were able to identify the gun used as well as the culprit.
Officers seized the gun and the criminal has been charged with animal abuse as well as the use of a weapon to carry out a crime. He was also found to be lacking the proper authorization to be in possession of the air rifle and has been charged for violating Weapon Regulations.
