He is the youngest child to have died from coronavirus in the Region of Murcia
The soaring rate of infections in the Region of Murcia has taken a tragic turn as health authorities have confirmed that a five-year-old boy lost his life to Covid in the municipality of Águilas.
The Red Crossed reached out to the bereaved family on social media to express their sorrow at the news.
“Our deepest condolences to the family of the little boy who died from this pandemic in our city”, the organisation wrote.

Since the health crisis began, Covid has killed almost 2,000 people in Murcia, but this child is the youngest fatality recorded to date. According to official sources, he was suffering from underlying illnesses before he passed away on Saturday January 15 at the Virgen de la Arrixaca de Murcia.
The City Council of Águilas also extended their condolences in a statement reading:
“We cannot find words with which to comfort, in these hard times, his family to whom we convey our very deepest condolences on behalf of all aguileños”.
Lamentamos profundamente el fallecimiento del pequeño de 5 años, víctima de esta terrible pandemia.
