ARCHIVED - 13 beach bars approved in Cartagena in time for the summer season
The municipal council has approved beach bar contracts for 13 business owners in La Azohia, La Manga and other parts of the Mar Menor area
At last, following weeks of wrangling and complaints about the adjudication process, beach bars in La Azohia, La Manga and the rest of the Mar Menor area will soon be under construction in preparation for the summer following their recent authorization by the corresponding authorities in Cartagena.
Thirteen business owners can now build their beach bars in these areas, and more will soon follow after they complete the authorization process, as this year, owners have had to renew the four-year contracts awarded to these types of establishments.
The municipal council in Cartagena maintains that it has tried to award the contracts while meeting quality and sustainability criteria and has also taken into account the needs of the hospitality sector.
After a year of tough restrictions for the sector, the council made the decision to not charge the municipal fee normally paid for the beach bars this year.
The Vice-Mayoress of Cartagena, Noelia Arroyo, has remarked that this year has been especially difficult for the hospitality and tourism sectors, who have been greatly affected by the pandemic.
Sra Arroyo also announced that, with these contracts, beach bars can open once again and offer their services to both residents in the area and visiting tourists, just in time for the summer season.
In other news, the installation of hammocks, parasols, tables and chairs on beaches has also been approved, and will be put in place over the next few days.
