Foreign tourists in Murcia stay for almost two weeks and spend more than 100 euros a day
Brits made up the majority of foreign tourists who visited the Murcia Region in the first six months of this year, with over 125,000 UK citizens having gone on holiday there already, and they’ve started staying for longer and spending more money.
According to Spain’s National Statistics Institute (INE), the Region of Murcia received 72,278 foreign tourists in June 2022, which is three times more than the number recorded during the same month of 2021 (24,099).
In addition, the average expenditure made by these tourists reached 111.87 euros per day for that month, an amount that exceeds pre-pandemic records, being 19.5% higher than the average amount of money spent by tourists in June 2019.
Likewise, the average length of stay of foreign visitors in the Region stood at 11.1 days in June, 4.2 days more than the national average for Spain (6.9 days).
As for the total expenditure made by foreign tourists during their stay in Murcia, this recovered in relation to 2021 and reached 89.4 million euros in June, compared to the 26.7 million recorded in the same month of 2021.
Tourism in Murcia for the first half of the year
During the first half of 2022, a total of 354,282 foreign tourists travelled to Murcia. Of these, 125,039 (35.3%) came from the United Kingdom, making it the nationality that most travelled to Murcia.
France was the second largest market, with 50,982 tourists (14.4%). Germany sent 29,271 visitors (8.3%) The Nordic countries ranked fourth, with 20,997 tourists (5.9%).
During the total period of their stay in the Region, foreign tourists spent 1,170.36 euros, 15.7% more than in the same period of 2019.
In the first half of the year, the Region of Murcia was the region with the longest length of stay of foreign tourists in the whole country, 12.1 days compared to the national average of 7.5 days.
