Aemet has issued a yellow alert warning for the Alicante Province and orange alerts for the Castellón and Valencia provinces of the Valencia region.
The anticyclone enjoyed along this stretch of the Mediterranean coastline for the last couple of weeks is coming to an abrupt halt thanks to the arrival of a significant stormfront, which has already deposited welcome autumn rains in the south-western regions of Spain.
Although the rains will be heavy, this is NOT a Gota Fria, so although the rainfall is expected to be considerable, it is not expected to be devastating.
Temperatures have dropped a little in the last few days (the first frosts of the winter season were reported this week inland) but temperatures will rise once the rain starts to fall.
The State Meteorological Agency, Aemet, warns that it will rain a lot, especially on Friday when both the coast of Las Marinas and coastal areas of the Vega Baja can expect rainfall of up to 60 liters per square meter of rain in twelve hours (60mm), which is steady, heavy rain.
Inland areas of the Alicante Province, Alicante City and most of the southern areas of the province can expect up to 30mm.
The alert posted by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) begins at midnight on Thursday and concludes at midnight on the same day.
