The Health department in Torrevieja has started administering Covid vaccines to citizens aged 90 and over and the immunization campaign aims to have vaccinated 100% of this group by Sunday. The department has received 91 vials of the Pfizer vaccine in total, to provide doses for 546 patients.
Patients over ninety have already been given appointments at the Primary Attention Centre in Torrevieja to receive their first dose and this age group will reach total immunity when the second dose is given in around three weeks’ time.
The Torrevieja Health department is part of the healthcare group Ribera and provides care to over 140,000 inhabitants across the municipalities of San Fulgencio, Rojales, Formentera del Segura, Benijófar, Guardamar del Segura, Los Montesinos, San Miguel de Salinas, Pilar de Horadada, Torrevieja, Orihuela Costa and Torremendo.
Representatives of the healthcare group have stated that that flexibility and rapidity are key factors in the vaccination campaign, and that the staff administering vaccines are the same professionals who normally provide primary care in the centre. At the same time the Torrevieja Health department has started an important logistical deployment and training process to prepare healthcare staff for the upcoming weeks, in order to guarantee optimal human and material resources in one of the most important vaccination campaigns in history.
