The gang specialized in robberies and drug trafficking to Lithuania
Crimefighters in the province of Alicante and the Region of Murcia notched up another success recently with the arrest of seven people of Lithuanian and Ukrainian origin in connection with various robberies and drug-related offences in the Costa Blanca and the Costa Cálida.
As well as detaining the six men and a woman, the Policía Nacional and the Guardia Civil also confiscated six motor vehicles, 300 grams of hashish, 3,850 euros in cash, mobile phones and computer equipment, as well as fake documentation which was in the possession of those arrested.
Among the crimes with which the group are associated are a bank robbery in Agost and heists at an Alicante supermarket and a petrol station in San Vicente del Raspeig, where they are believed to have made off with a booty totaling 144,000 euros, and they are also under investigation for drug trafficking activities: it has been established that they were purchasing hashish in Málaga before transporting it via the port of Alicante to Lithuania, where colleagues sold it on to users and small-time dealers.
At the time of their arrests in Alicante, Orihuela and San Javier the criminal gang had recently rented a property in the province of Almería where they planned to base their operations in future, making it easier for them to acquire and then export large quantities of hashish. At the same time, the police swooped while the transport of the latest batch was being planned, using two of the motor vehicles which are now being held in custody.
