Hotels in Benidorm and the Costa Blanca request delayed Easter holidays
The Hosbec association wants to postpone the Easter period until the end of April in a bid to help the sector
The Hotel Business Association of Benidorm, Costa Blanca and the Comunidad Valenciana, Hosbec, has requested that the national Government postpone the Easter holiday period until the end of April in order to provide a margin to reach “zero levels” of coronavirus infection, allowing hotels to reopen.
The president of the association, Toni Mayor, has stated, according to Europa Press, that he feels that the administration should use “common sense” and take extraordinary measures to facilitate mobility and achieve an “ideal situation” in order to allow hotels to open in response to the extreme financial difficulties faced by many businesses in the sector and the dramatic drop in coronavirus cases over the past few weeks.
Sr. Mayor adds that if the number of cases continues to decrease, hotels should be able to open in just a few weeks, at the end of April, and he is of the opinion that delaying the Easter holiday period for a few weeks would greatly help the hotel industry. He also mentions creating an “army of track and tracers” in order to control and detain possible outbreaks, a measure which was not put in place last summer.
This request comes after discussions across Spain about postponing the Easter holiday period for 21 days in order to reduce the effect of a possible fourth wave and vaccinate a higher number of people before the holidays.
On the other hand, the regional School Board in Valencia has disregarded the regional government’s recommendations and has decided to give students time off for the Fallas fiestas, despite them not being celebrated this year.
