Heavy hailstorms and torrential rain in Alicante province on Friday

In some areas it looked as though snow had fallen, so thick was the covering of hail

The Alicante province certainly caught the worst of the forecasted storms which arrived on Friday morning exactly as predicted by state meteorological agency, Aemet.

Although many areas suffered torrential rain and heavy hail, the most spectacular early images came from the l'Alcoià comarca where interior areas were covered with such a thick layer of hailstones that it looked as though it had snowed!

Other towns, such as Banyeres, have registered heavy rains leaving more than 70 liters of water per square meter in specific points, and between Banyeres and Alcoy, ground floors and garages were flooded.
