36 per cent of passengers in February were on Alicante-UK flights
While passenger numbers continue to increase at Spanish airports, due principally to the ongoing boom in the international tourism sector, the latest figures related to Alicante-Elche airport show that the gateway to the Costa Blanca is definitely feeling the effects of this generalized trend.
During February at Alicante-Elche the number of passengers passing through the terminal reached 687,107, representing an increase of 12.6% over the same month last year, despite February 2016 being one day longer on account of the leap year. This follows a similar increase in January, and means that after two months of 2017 the cumulative total is now 14% more than last year at 1,372,074.
The breakdown of the February data shows once again that the activity at Alicante-Elche is heavily dependent on the UK market, with those on flights to and from Britain and the Costa Blanca accounting for over 36.3% of all traffic. A further 13.1% share was taken up by those on domestic flights within Spain, while other important markets included those of the Netherlands (7.6%), Germany ( 6.7%), Norway (5.6%) and Belgium (5.5%).
