8 arrested on drug charges in Santa Pola, Ibi and Torrevieja
Officers found over 30 kilos of marihuana, 2.2 kilos of hashish and a “drug den” for heroin addicts
Guardia Civil officers in the province of Alicante have detained 8 people for drug trafficking charges in three separate operations, which took place in Santa Pola, Ibi and Torrevieja. Officers confiscated 32.5 kilos of marihuana and 2.2 kilos of hashish, as well as dismantling a “drug den”.
These proceedings follow another operation in Almoradí this weekend, where the Policía Nacional dismantled a laboratory that produced 600 kilos of cocaine a month.
In Santa Pola, two officers spotted a car which raised suspicions and when they approached one of the occupants attempted to flee. After detaining both men, the officers searched the vehicle and found 32.5 kilos of marihuana in 58 airtight packets of around 550 grams each, hidden in a container of parsley.
Elsewhere, during an identification stop in Ibi a man was observed to be behaving excessively nervously, alerting police officers that something was wrong and, after exhaustively searching the vehicle, they found 2.2 kilos of hashish and 3,400 euros in cash hidden inside the spare tyre.
In a different investigation, the Torrevieja Guardia Civil arrested 4 people and dismantled a “drug den” where heroin was being sold and used. The suspects had set up a room for drug use in a flat in central Torrevieja so that the addicts could consume illegal substances without attracting suspicion from the police.
All the criminals involved, two in Santa Pola, two in Ibi and four in Torrevieja, have now been given prison sentences after appearing in Court.
